A Message from Fr. John Torrance

Generosity

Generosity is wonderful virtue.  A spirit of generosity is deeply rooted in Christian values.  It is rooted in the life and example of Jesus.  A generous person is willing to share with others, to give of him or herself.  We may think of generosity in terms of giving material goods such as food, money, clothing.  Generosity of the spirit is also important.  Generosity of self is greatly blessed.

In Christian homemaking, teaching children, and adults too, a sense of generosity is essential.  A piggy bank can be put on the table so that anyone could put loose change in it.  When the bank is full, decide together where the money can go.  Toys that are no longer used can be given to different charities; women’s shelters, children’s hospitals etc.  More important, give your time to each other. Spend a little more time with each other, listening to each other, at the dinner table, or playing games, etc.

Christian homemaking requires a sense of generosity.  Jesus was generous with those who hungered, with those who were sick or felt excluded.  The best sign of generosity you can give to the family is yourself and your time.  Even a few minutes extra a day will make a difference.

God bless,
Fr. John
